Based in the heart of Scotland’s historic and culturally rich capital city, our two Principal’s Research Fellows will have the opportunity and the support to become pioneers in their chosen field, in a University with an exciting strategy, ambitious for its staff and students.

The University is inviting applications for the appointment of two fellows across a range of disciplines spanning our six schools. 
The posts are aligned to the University’s Academic Themes and encourage innovative, interdisciplinary opportunities based within one of the University’s established research groups:
• Sustainable Communities
• Information Society
• Wellbeing
Our Principal's Research Fellowships will have an initial contract period of five years with opportunies for outstanding candidates to progress to Associate Professor.
Main Duties and responsibilities to include:
Develop research objectives, projects and proposals for individual or collaborative research projects, linked to strategic priorities;
Actively contribute to research in your area of research excellence;
Make presentations or exhibitions at national or international conferences and other similar events;
Develop new concepts and ideas to extend intellectual understanding;
Mentor and coach early career researchers; advising on personal development supporting them with research techniques; and providing
supervisory support to research teams, where required;
Contribute to the University’s Research Excellence Framework submission;
Actively work towards meeting the criteria for Associate Professor.
Essential personal requirements are:
Doctorate in related discipline;
Demonstrable and extensive research experience, recognised nationally amongst peers in your field;

Specialist knowledge within discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies;

Experience of writing research proposals;
Evidence of successfully leading and managing research projects to deadline and of high quality standard;
Experience of writing high quality journal papers;
Experience of presenting research at international conferences;
Experience of collaborating on research projects;
Excellent communication skills and the ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage others;
A commitment to continuous professional development;
Willingness to play an active part in the life of the research group and wider research community;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively & a willingness to broaden external networks and promote public engagement opportunities.
